Sound Control
Weather & Brush Seals for Noise and Sound Reduction
Unwanted sound transfer through door gaps and openings can disrupt working environments, increase noise pollution, and reduce overall comfort. Memtech brush seals provide an effective solution for sound control by sealing gaps while adapting to uneven surfaces and high-cycle door movement.
Sound Reduction with Brush Seals
Brush seals help reduce sound transfer by sealing air gaps where noise typically travels. Individual nylon bristles follow contours along the door and frame, closing pathways that allow sound to pass through openings.
Unlike rigid sealing materials, brush seals maintain contact even when doors flex, vibrate, or cycle frequently—helping sustain consistent sound-dampening performance over time.
Proven Noise Reduction Performance
In one documented application, Memtech brush seals were installed in a theater lobby to reduce energy loss. After installation, the facility manager reported a noticeable reduction in traffic noise—highlighting the brush seal’s ability to dampen sound in addition to improving thermal performance.
Independent testing compared brush-sealed door perimeters to doors fully taped shut (an impractical condition). At certain frequencies, brush seals blocked as much—or more—sound than tape, demonstrating their effectiveness in real-world sound control applications.
Vibration Dampening and Flexible Sealing
The flexible nature of brush seal bristles allows them to absorb and dampen vibrations as they adjust to adjacent surfaces. This characteristic helps reduce noise caused by movement, rattling, or mechanical vibration around doors and equipment openings.
Nylon Brush Seal Performance
Memtech Type 6 nylon brush seals are recommended for food processing and handling facilities and are tested to U.L. specifications as “Gasketing Material for Fire Doors.” These brush seals perform reliably across a wide temperature range—from approximately −100°F to +200°F.
Benefits of Brush Seals for Sound Control
- Reduce sound transfer through door gaps and openings
- Dampen vibration and rattling around doors
- Maintain sealing performance in high-cycle applications
- Seal uneven surfaces where rigid materials fail
- Support quieter, more comfortable work environments
- Durable nylon bristles with long-term memory
If noise transfer is an issue around your doors or equipment openings, Memtech Brush can help identify the right sealing solution.
